Jay-Z’s Final Yankee Stadium Show Delayed After Security Breach

The final night of Jay-Z‘s historic outing continued to be delayed well into the night and still had not started as of 11:35 pm Sunday night. At the time of this report, the event had yet to begin.

Jay-Z’s three-night run at Yankee Stadium ended with an odd, unexpected twist July 12 after a security breach outside the venue forced officials to delay the final show.

Thousands of fans were left waiting outside the Bronx stadium after what police described as a large group rushing through one of the security checkpoints. According to ABC7 New York, the incident prompted authorities to temporarily lock down the stadium. This stopped people from entering or exiting while NYPD officers and venue security regained control.

The concert was originally scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. A source with AllHipHop expressed frustration.

“I’ve been in this damn stadium for almost 5 hours. I’m over it,” the source said under the condition of anonymity. “Tupac and Biggie can come out at this point and I’m still gonna have an attitude.”

The source said the show seemed to move forward, and then suddenly halted.

“D-Nice did a 30 minute set at 8 and then they played 3 hours of elevator music,” the source continued. “I feel like if they were canceling or rescheduling that decision should be made by now. I would be okay with going home at this point.”

Witnesses have shared videos across social media showing packed entrances and long lines stretching around the stadium. Some attendees reported hearing that people had forced their way through one of the gates. Back in the day, that was called a “bum rush.”

Police reportedly reopened the entrances shortly before 10 p.m., but the show did not start immediately.

As of publication, authorities have not released detailed information about how many people allegedly breached security or if any arrests were made. No injuries were reported. Officials also have not said whether anyone gained unauthorized access to the concert.

The delay marked the only major disruption during Jay-Z’s highly celebrated Yankee Stadium residency, which commemorated the 30th anniversary of Reasonable Doubt.

Neither Jay-Z’s representatives, Live Nation, nor Yankee Stadium had issued a detailed statement about the incident at the time of publication.
