Puerto Rico is preparing for a busy holiday weekend, with hotel occupancy across the island projected to reach some of its highest levels of the summer.
Hotels endorsed by the Puerto Rico Tourism Company are reporting strong demand for the July 24–27 period, led by the San Juan metropolitan area, where preliminary occupancy has reached 94.1 percent.
The agency expects Saturday, July 25 to be the busiest day of the weekend, with average occupancy across endorsed hotels projected to reach 93 percent.
Puerto Rico Tourism Company Executive Director Willianette Robles Cancel said the figures reflect continued growth in the island’s tourism industry, along with strong demand from Puerto Rico residents traveling within the destination during the holiday period.
“We are very pleased with the sustained growth our tourism industry is experiencing, both in hotel occupancy levels and in the increase in residents choosing to support local tourism businesses and enjoy the wide range of options and events available for domestic tourism during the holidays,” Robles Cancel said.
Strong Demand Across Puerto Rico
The metropolitan region, known as Porta Capital, currently has the highest occupancy rate at 94.1 percent.
Puerto Rico’s central mountain region, Porta Cordillera, is reporting occupancy of 86.5 percent, followed by the northern Porta Atlántico region at 86.3 percent.
Porta Caribe, which includes destinations across southern Puerto Rico, is at 83.5 percent, while the island’s southwest region is reporting occupancy of 83 percent.
The northwest stands at 82 percent, while Porta del Mar, which covers eastern Puerto Rico, is reporting occupancy of 80 percent.
The preliminary figures could rise further as hotels receive additional last-minute reservations ahead of the weekend, according to the tourism agency.
The occupancy levels show broad demand beyond San Juan, with hotels in Puerto Rico’s mountain, southern, western and eastern regions all expected to benefit from the holiday travel period.
Puerto Rico has increasingly promoted domestic tourism as a way to support hotels, restaurants, tour operators and attractions throughout the island, particularly during holiday weekends when local residents frequently travel outside their home regions.
The July weekend is expected to include events and tourism activity across Puerto Rico, contributing to what tourism officials expect will be one of the island’s strongest hotel weekends of the summer.
