Beyoncé Makes SirDavis a Black-Owned Brand With LVMH Buyout

Beyoncé just bought Moët Hennessy’s full stake in SirDavis American Whisky and now owns the brand outright.

The acquisition makes SirDavis a woman-, family- and Black-owned company with no corporate partner in the equation.

A brand spokesperson called it the start of “a new independent chapter” following four years of building alongside LVMH.

The timing works for where both sides of this deal were already heading, even if neither made it explicit.

Moët Hennessy has been cutting its global workforce and pulling focus back toward its core legacy brands, and SirDavis didn’t fit that narrowed vision.

According to The Spirits Business, financial terms weren’t disclosed and the brand intends to maintain its international presence in the U.K., Japan and France.

SirDavis isn’t the kind of brand where a famous name just gets stamped on a bottle.

Beyoncé named it after Davis Hogue, her paternal great-grandfather who ran moonshine in the American South during Prohibition.

SirDavis featured prominently throughout Beyoncé’s “Cowboy Carter” tour and its cocktail kit sold out within hours of debut.

The brand launched in September 2024 and is available at Total Wine & More and other retailers nationwide. It was Moët Hennessy’s first American spirits brand developed entirely from the ground up, making the partnership a notable milestone from day one.

Jay-Z had already worked the LVMH playbook before Beyoncé made her move, and he ran it twice.

His first exit came in 2021 when he sold half of Armand de Brignac to Moët Hennessy and cleared an estimated $315 million.

AllHipHop reported at the time that the brand was valued at roughly $630 million, ranking it among the biggest cash exits in Hip-Hop history.

D’Ussé cognac was Jay-Z’s second major spirits venture, co-built with Bacardi in 2012 and grown into one of the fastest-expanding brands in the country. Valuation disputes escalated into a messy legal fight before both sides settled in 2023 with Bacardi acquiring majority ownership.

Jay-Z’s legal team valued D’Ussé at over $3 billion and he reportedly cleared around $750 million while keeping a minority stake.

SirDavis moved approximately 25,000 cases in the U.S. in 2025, according to Impact Databank data.
