A former Atlanta Chick-fil-A worker said that the fast food chain “ruined her life” after she sustained a workplace injury.
The TikToker, who goes by the screen handle Mac (@macdaddyme), discussed the company in a video that received more than 32,000 views. Here’s what she says happened.
Atlanta Chick-fil-A Worker Gets Injured
Mac told her audience that she worked at a Chick-fil-A location in Atlanta. She says that on May 7, 2026, she got ready for work as per usual. The TikToker reports that she usually walks a full hour and 30 minutes to work, but her landlord offered to take her. She was able to arrive at her job an hour and 20 minutes early, but she didn’t clock in. Instead, she hydrated, ate, and got ready for her shift.
She told her audience that during that fateful shift, she was “making the orders, prepping the orders for them to, like, go out to the customers, and I would call back to the kitchen on what they need to drop.”
She added that on her first day, a co-worker told her to never use a ladder above the fryer, as it’s a “hazard.” Mac says this rule applies even if she struggles to place something atop the shelf above the fryer, as she is supposed to. She says she followed the advice and tried to put a pan on the high shelf without a ladder, only for the pan to fall back on her head.
The TikToker named off a group of co-workers who allegedly saw the injury, including an HR manager. She says another employee asked her if she was OK and then sent her on a break for 30 minutes.
Mac said that while she was sitting down, she realized her injury was worse than she anticipated. She discussed the injury with another co-worker, who told her to ask if she could go home.
Mac says that after the break, she asked her manager if she was allowed to head back to her house. But she says she was told she’d have to wait for another employee to clock in at 3 p.m., approximately 40 minutes later.
Chick-fil-A Worker’s Accident Gets Worse
Mac says she was frustrated that the management team did not allow her to head back to her home, but she continued her shift anyway. She told her audience that she couldn’t afford to quit her job, as she worked paycheck to paycheck.
The TikToker says that before fully returning to work, she took out her phone and recorded a video of herself where she explained the situation. She said that she sent the video to her fiancé and twin sister as a means of preserving evidence.
Mac says that immediately upon returning to work, she noticed that she was slower than usual. She says another one of her coworkers asked if she was OK, and she told them she wasn’t.
By that point, Mac said her vision was blurring. She says she was only able to tell her co-worker simple phrases like “the lights” when she meant to say more.
Then, Mac says she blacked out.
She says she woke up again in her manager’s office with something cold pressed to her forehead. Paramedics were there, she reports, and her managers were asking who they should contact on her behalf.
Mac said that the franchise owner downplayed the situation.
“Oh, it’s just a chicken pan. It’s just a chicken pan. How could this even [happen?] This is—it’s just a chicken pan,” she reports him saying.
Despite this, she tried to focus on the paramedics. She says they were asking whether they could take her to a hospital for treatment.
At first, she refused. She says she told them she had no insurance and couldn’t afford to accrue medical debt. But she says the paramedics told her that the cost should be covered by some form of workers’ compensation since she was injured at her workplace.
Workers’ compensation is government-mandated, according to Investopedia. It gives benefits to workers who are injured at their job.
After receiving assurances, Mac decided to go to Emory University Hospital.
What Did the Emory Hospital Trip Reveal?
Mac said that she had a relatively positive experience at the hospital. She thanked the staff there, as she said they listened to her concerns and cared about her well-being.
She didn’t come out of the situation unscathed, though. Mac said that weeks afterward, she still had an astigmatism in her left eye. It wasn’t clear whether she’d be able to see the same again. Additionally, the content creator said that following the accident, she began to have frequent migraines. The situation, she said, destroyed her mental health.
She told her audience that after the injury occurred, Chick-fil-A ghosted her. So, she struggled to navigate conversations about workers’ compensation. She says she could no longer pay her bills, which meant she had to move out of Atlanta. She also said that after the accident, she was no longer able to work in the kitchen.
“I don’t think I can work in the kitchen anymore because I still am very sensitive to … heat and bright light,” she said. “My eyes just still do not know what to do, and I still get nauseous and lightheaded when I’m just moving too much and too fast, and I just can’t work in that environment anymore.”
She said she was temporarily unhoused as a result of the accident. She ended up with more than $3,000 in medical debt, which also made it difficult for her to afford basic necessities. When she published her first video, she said she was scraping by and running out of food.
A Hopeful Update
Despite experiencing incredible difficulty, things began to head in a positive direction. In an update video, Mac explained that she received workers’ compensation after putting Chick-fil-A “on blast.”
Viewers said they were thankful the content creator was in a safer place. Some commenters took the opportunity to give her advice for the future.
“If you ever get hurt again on a job, instantly go to manager for an incident report,” one viewer said. “Don’t let anyone pull the wool over your eyes when it comes to injuries.”
