Don Toliver left thousands of Houston fans hanging Tuesday night when his sold-out Toyota Center show cut off mid-performance after a guy smuggled a gun into the arena.
The Houston rapper was deep into his Octane Tour set around 10:40 P.M. when he exited the stage after performing “Kryptonite” and “Too Many Nights,” and what looked like a standard break turned into a complete shutdown.
Nobody expected what came next.
The crowd waited, some chanting his name while others started the wave, thinking he’d return for the final three songs on the regular setlist.
Then an unseen voice came through the speakers telling people to “sit the f*** down” because the show wasn’t over.
Seconds later, the entire venue flooded with house lights and an announcer delivered the message nobody wanted to hear: “Sorry for the inconvenience. The show is over. Please go the nearest exit. Exit safely. Thank you, and have a good night.” The boos were immediate and loud.
According to The Houston Chronicle, Toliver had performed for roughly 90 minutes before the abrupt ending, joining fans on the floor for tracks like “K9,” “No Pole,” and “Too Much Money in Here” while also performing on a circular stage suspended above the crowd.
The energy had been electric all night, with a mosh pit running the entire show and the crowd fully locked in.
Just before the lights came on, Houston City Council Member Edward Pollard and rapper Bun B had presented Toliver with a proclamation recognizing August 11 as Don Toliver Day, with Pollard telling the cheering crowd, “This is our own right here.”
The guy who managed to get his gun through the metal detectors was eventually collared, cuffed and sent to jail, but not before ruining everyone’s night.
