Cancun’s New Riu Ventura Resort Just Held Its Grand Opening, With Swim-Up Rooms, 6 Pools, and a “Skybar”

At the southern edge of Cancun’s Hotel Zone, travelers gather throughout the day beside the giant multicolored “Cancun” sign overlooking the Caribbean Sea. The viewpoint at El Mirador has become one of the most photographed spots in the destination, where visitors pause for the familiar shot: bright white sand, bands of turquoise water and the open Caribbean horizon behind them.

Just steps away from that overlook, a property that remained closed and unused for nearly 20 years has returned to life.

Riu has held the grand opening of the Hotel Riu Ventura (which initially debuted late last year), unveiling a new all-inclusive resort in one of the most visible sections of Cancun’s shoreline. The opening restores activity to a site that long stood empty along the beachfront, transforming it into a 705-room resort designed for modern all-inclusive travelers.

The debut also expands Riu’s already significant presence in the Mexican Caribbean. The company now operates 15 hotels across Quintana Roo, including properties in Cancun, Costa Mujeres, and Playa del Carmen.

For travelers heading to Cancun this year, the new resort adds another option directly in the center of the Hotel Zone’s most recognizable stretch of coastline.

A family-led project years in the making

The development of the new Hotel Riu Ventura was overseen directly by Luis Riu, with members of the company’s fourth generation involved throughout the design and construction process.

The project represents the transformation of a site that remained unused for nearly two decades. With the new hotel, Riu has returned one of Cancun’s most prominent beachfront locations to active use.

The location places guests beside Playa El Mirador, a section of shoreline known for its wide beach and open Caribbean views. Travelers visiting the lookout nearby often stop along this stretch of sand before continuing through Cancun’s Hotel Zone.

From the resort, guests are minutes from the scenic overlook, while still positioned within the main resort corridor that connects Cancun’s beaches, restaurants and nightlife.

Inside the rooms at the new Riu Ventura

The hotel includes 705 guest rooms spread across 14 floors, designed with contemporary layouts and neutral interiors typical of Riu’s newer resorts.

Many rooms feature balconies with views of the Caribbean Sea, offering direct sightlines over Cancun’s long sweep of white sand shoreline. Others overlook the resort’s pool areas and landscaped grounds.

One of the most notable additions at the property is a new concept for the brand in Mexico: elevated swim-up rooms.

The hotel includes 36 elevated swim-up rooms, where guests step from their terrace directly into a pool section positioned above ground level. The design provides swim-up access while maintaining additional privacy and elevated views across the resort.

Inside the rooms, guests find king or double beds, modern bathrooms, lounge seating and terraces designed for outdoor relaxation. The layouts follow Riu’s familiar all-inclusive format, pairing comfortable interiors with balcony space that encourages time outside.

Pools with Caribbean views

Pools remain central to the resort experience in Cancun, and the new Riu Ventura places several swimming areas throughout the property.

Near the beachfront, large pool terraces provide space for daytime swimming and lounging, with sun chairs arranged around the water and direct access to the beach just beyond the pool deck.

The most distinctive pool area rises on the sixth floor, where the hotel includes a pool paired with an adult-only skybaroverlooking the Caribbean Sea.

From this level, guests look out across the coastline toward the wide blue water that defines Cancun’s shoreline. The elevated vantage point provides one of the property’s best views, particularly in the late afternoon when the Caribbean horizon becomes the focal point of the scene.

The skybar and pool area remain reserved exclusively for adult guests, creating a quieter setting within the larger resort environment.

Eight restaurants across the resort

The hotel launches with eight dining venues, all included within the resort’s 24-hour all-inclusive program.

At the center of the dining lineup is La Hacienda, the main buffet restaurant featuring live cooking stations and rotating international selections throughout the day.

Specialty restaurants add additional variety across the resort.

Kulinarium serves gourmet international cuisine in a more formal setting, while Kaori offers Asian-inspired dishes.

Italian restaurant Rimini focuses on traditional Italian recipes, while the resort’s Steak House features grilled cuts and classic steakhouse fare.

Mexican restaurant Agave highlights regional dishes, while Tiki Taco serves tacos and casual Mexican favorites.

Guests also find quick outdoor dining at Pepe’s Food, which provides casual meals and snacks during the day.

Together, the venues form the core of the hotel’s round-the-clock dining concept, allowing guests to move between restaurants throughout the day and night.

Why Cancun continues to attract travelers

The opening of the Riu Ventura arrives as Cancun continues to rank among the most visited destinations in the Caribbean region — with traffic continuing to climb even amid Mexico’s security situation.

You arrive through Cancun International Airport, one of the busiest gateways in Latin America, with nonstop flights connecting the destination to cities across the United States, Canada, Europe and Latin America.

Much of Cancun’s tourism activity centers around the Hotel Zone, a narrow barrier island that stretches along the Caribbean shoreline. Here, long beaches of bright white sand run alongside large resorts, restaurants and beach clubs.

Travelers visiting the area spend time along the water during the day, often combining beach time with excursions across the surrounding region.

From Cancun, popular day trips include Isla Mujeres, the offshore island known for calm beaches and snorkeling, as well as visits to nearby cenotes, the freshwater sinkholes found throughout Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula.

Many visitors also travel inland to explore Mayan archaeological sites, including Chichén Itzá and Tulum, both within reach of Cancun for day excursions.

Even within the Hotel Zone, travelers often move between beaches, restaurants and viewpoints throughout their stay.

One of the most recognizable stops along the shoreline remains El Mirador, where the large Cancun sign has become a symbol of the destination.

With the opening of Riu Ventura, that famous viewpoint now sits beside one of the newest resorts in the city.

Another expansion for Riu in the Mexican Caribbean

The new hotel strengthens Riu’s long-standing presence across Mexico’s Caribbean coast.

The company operates multiple properties across Cancun’s Hotel Zone, along with additional resorts in Costa Mujeres sand Playa del Carmen, two areas that have grown rapidly as resort destinations in recent years.

With the opening of the Hotel Riu Ventura, the brand continues its expansion across the region while restoring one of Cancun’s long-vacant beachfront sites.

For travelers planning a visit to Cancun, the new resort adds another large all-inclusive option in the center of the Hotel Zone — positioned beside one of the city’s best-known viewpoints and directly along the Caribbean shoreline.
