It looks like any real hope of a Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao rematch just hit the canvas.
YIKES!
According to circulating reports and boxing insiders, talks between the two legends have stalled because they could not agree on whether the fight would be a real, sanctioned bout or simply another exhibition. And honestly, that one detail changes everything.

Pacquiao, who has continued to take real fights even into the later stages of his career, reportedly wanted the rematch to be officially sanctioned. That would mean real judges and the possibility that Floyd’s famous 50-0 record could be on the line.
“HE WANTS AN EXHIBITION WITH ME BUT I DISAGREE… WANT REAL FIGHT LIKE THIS. SO THIS IS IT. THIS IS WHAT I’M WAITING FOR.”
Mayweather, on the other hand, has built his post-retirement business model around exhibitions. From Logan Paul to various international showcase fights to an upcoming fight with Iron Mike Tyson, Floyd has shown he can generate massive revenue without risking his legacy. Or taking punishment. From a business standpoint, it makes perfect sense. Why risk the “0” when you can still make eight figures? But…
From a fan standpoint though, I get why this is not “it.” The 2015 fight between them, dubbed The Fight of the Century, did historic numbers but many fans felt it came five years too late. A real rematch now, even with both men older, would at least offer closure. By the way look at how Pac Man is training!
He is hitting himself with sticks and training full blast like he’s got nothing to lose.

Does Floyd even have anything left to prove? Or is this all about the money?
Pacquiao seems to be driven by legacy and competition.
And in 2026, this fight was never realistically going to happen as a real fight, but nobody told Pac Man that! Now, the rumor is Floyd is lawyering up. That’s speculation, but he’s also suing Showtime, so it is not far-fetched.
If you ask me? An exhibition probably still would have sold huge numbers because nostalgia sells. Big fight fans would have panned it, for sure.
Would you even want to see them fight again at this stage if it was only an exhibition? Or does it only matter if it’s a real fight?
