The M/V Oceania Allura, a new luxury cruise ship from Oceania Cruises, made its inaugural call to Freeport Harbor in Grand Bahama this week, marking the vessel’s first visit to the island.
The arrival was recognized with a plaque exchange ceremony between Captain Leo Lujak and officials from the Ministry of Tourism, Investments and Aviation and Freeport Harbor, a standard maritime tradition for first-time port calls.
Captain Lujak said the voyage began on March 21 and is scheduled to conclude on April 4, with 1,083 passengersonboard during the sailing.
The Allura is one of Oceania Cruises’ newer ships, part of a fleet positioned in the upper-premium segment of the cruise market. The vessel is designed for destination-focused itineraries, typically carrying just over 1,000 guests, with an emphasis on longer port stays and smaller passenger capacity compared to mass-market cruise ships. The brand is known for culinary programming, multiple specialty restaurants and a higher crew-to-guest ratio.
Its call to Grand Bahama adds another premium cruise option to the island’s schedule, as destinations across The Bahamas continue efforts to diversify cruise arrivals beyond larger, high-capacity ships.
Tourism officials said the visit aligns with broader efforts to strengthen cruise partnerships and increase visitor activity on the island.
Karenda Rolle, Senior Manager of Guest Services and Training at the Ministry of Tourism, said the call reflects the destination’s focus on delivering a consistent experience for cruise passengers.
She also highlighted the role of local stakeholders, including taxi operators, vendors and tour companies, in supporting cruise arrivals and facilitating on-island activity during port calls.
The arrival of the Allura represents a first entry for the vessel into Grand Bahama’s cruise rotation, with officials expressing interest in continued calls as part of future itineraries.
