ST MARY, Jamaica — The St Mary police are seeking a man for questioning in connection with a series of suspected arson attacks in the Rock River community of Richmond, St Mary, which have left residents on edge.
The first incident occurred at 3:00 am on Friday, August 21, when residents were awakened by flames engulfing two motor vehicles and a business establishment. Despite attempts to contain the blaze, the vehicles and the business were destroyed. The establishment is reportedly owned and operated by a member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF).
Later that morning, around 6:00 am, another business place in the community was targeted by fire. However, quick intervention by residents prevented the blaze from spreading, resulting in only minor damage to the property.
The suspected attacks continued early Saturday morning, around 3:00 am, when a three-bedroom board house was set ablaze. Firefighters, along with residents, battled the flames, which spread to an adjoining concrete house that was under construction.
The board house and an outside kitchen were completely destroyed, while sections of the concrete structure and its contents sustained extensive damage.
Firefighters responded to all three incidents, carrying out firefighting and cooling-down operations at each location. The total value of the damage has not yet been determined.
Investigators are now working to determine the circumstances surrounding the fires and whether the incidents are connected.
