Mia X is making it clear that retirement from the spotlight never meant retirement from the craft. The No Limit legend has officially teased a brand new independent album, revealing that years of unreleased music have been piling up while fans wondered if she’d ever return with a full project.
The pioneering New Orleans MC took to Instagram to explain that her creativity never stopped flowing even if she was not in the mix like the olden days.
“I left the game for various reasons, but I never put my pen down. I have tons of songs old and new music and I have finally decided to release it.”
That announcement alone is enough to get fans excited, but Mia X hinted that she’s not simply looking backward. She says the project will blend vintage material with fresh recording. I like the concept. She also plans to work with artists she has admired for years and new rappers.
“I’m mostly excited about the new collaborations with artist I respect and admire. As well as tapping some of the newer femcees because a lot of them are DOPE to me.”
That line might spark plenty of speculation about who will make the final guest list. Mia X has earned respect across generations. RIP Gangsta Boo – that would have been crazy.
This is not a No Limit Records affair and Mia X says she’s embracing full independence.
“Im also excited about being my Own Boss.”
She even floated an unexpected idea for the album artwork, posting a childhood photo from 1974 and explaining the humorous story behind it.
“Im thinking about using this picture from 1974 for the album cover because every time I was asked what I wanted to drink my answer was Beer. I can still hear older women saying beer? That’s not lady like”
The caption feels nostalgic and authentic. We love some Mia X. We can call it a comeback.
