A man was shot dead and an illegal firearm seized during a police confrontation at Robert Close in Kingston 10 on Friday morning.
The dead man has been identified as 38-year-old Marlon Wayne, otherwise called ‘Brando’, from Robert Close.
Reports indicate that around 5:10 am, more than 100 police personnel conducted an operation targeting the Ambrook Lane gang, which operates in the Ambrook Lane, Robert Close, and Tarrant Drive communities.
The police reportedly went to a residence on 14 Robert Close. While clearing the dwelling structure, Wayne allegedly jumped from a bed and retrieved a prohibited weapon from a bedside table.
The now-deceased, the police reported, aimed the weapon at the lawmen and discharged one round in their direction.
The police reportedly took evasive action and returned the gunfire, resulting in Wayne being wounded. A black Taurus G2C 9mm pistol with one magazine containing three 9mm cartridges was taken from him.
Wayne was assisted to the Kingston Public Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
Police intelligence indicated that Wayne was a prominent member of the Ambrook Lane Gang and a known extortionist within the Half-Way Tree business district in St. Andrew.
Wayne was also previously charged with robbery with aggravation, murder, illegal possession of a firearm and conspiracy and was reporting on bail at the Half-Way Tree Police Station.
