Eminem’s ex-wife Kim Mathers is heading to jail after a Michigan judge found she had been repeatedly breaking the rules of her release.
The 51-year-old from Chesterfield Township appeared in court Thursday when prosecutors revealed the ankle monitor company had flagged her for violating bond conditions multiple times.
Judge William H. Hackel III did not hesitate to revoke her bond and order her into custody, though he left one door open for her to walk free.
Mathers had been arrested twice in three months on drunk driving charges, with the first incident happening back in May when she hit a parked car while impaired.
Her blood alcohol content registered at 0.204, more than double the legal limit, and just days later she caught another DUI charge.
According to ClickOnDetroit, she had been given a $5,000 personal bond in June after turning herself in for missing three separate court hearings.
The prosecution came prepared with evidence that she had failed to enter an alcohol treatment program for two months straight, despite her attorney claiming she had made arrangements for care.
The judge’s ruling gave Mathers a path forward if she commits to getting help. Hackel said she would be released from jail the moment she enters an inpatient treatment facility, meaning her freedom now depends entirely on whether she is willing to take recovery seriously.
This stands in stark contrast to Eminem’s own journey with addiction, where the Detroit rapper has maintained complete sobriety for nearly two decades.
Em got clean in April 2008 after a near-fatal overdose connected to prescription pill abuse, and he has celebrated every single year of recovery since then with sobriety coins.
The rapper had been consuming up to 60 prescription pills daily before hitting rock bottom, but he chose to fight back and rebuild his life.
Unlike Mathers, who has struggled to stay committed to treatment, Eminem’s recovery has been unwavering and public, becoming one of his greatest personal victories.
As reported by USA Today, he is now approaching 20 years clean and continues to be vocal about the importance of staying sober.
