50 Cent knows exactly what he’s doing when it comes to television, and Anita-Joy Uwajeh isn’t shy about saying it out loud.
The British actress broke down what the legendary producer brings to his latest project, the upcoming Starz boxing drama “Fightland,” and her assessment was crystal clear about his value to the series.
“I mean he adds his expertise of being a part of super successful shows and what the ingredients is you need for that um and so you know that’s what I would say he adds to it. He knows how to do this. He’s done it several times and he will continue to do it several times over,” Uwajeh said.
That track record speaks for itself. 50 Cent built an empire on Starz with “Power” and its sprawling spinoff universe, proving he understands the formula for creating television that keeps people locked in.
“Fightland” marks his latest venture into original scripted content, and this time he’s diving into the gritty world of British boxing.
The eight-episode series follows Maduka “Duke” Kilroy, a disgraced, formerly incarcerated boxing champion who returns to London seeking revenge after his childhood best friend disappears into the corrupt underbelly of the sport.
It’s a story about survival, betrayal, and the brutal reality of what happens when personal vendettas collide with organized crime in the boxing world.
The ensemble cast includes Howard Charles, Deborah Ayorinde, Charles Babalola, Tahirah Sharif, Tyler Conti, and Richard Pepple alongside Uwajeh, who plays Cebella “Cece” Marshall.
The series premieres July 31 on Starz and August 27 on Sky Atlantic in the United Kingdom, according to reports.
When the conversation shifted to 50 Cent’s recent Diddy documentary, Uwajeh explained she hadn’t watched it yet but acknowledged its cultural weight.
“I haven’t watched his Diddy documentary only because…I need to be in a particular space to be able to digest that kind of information. I’ve definitely seen clips and just from the clips alone I’m like that’s a lot,” she said. Her honesty about needing mental space for that kind of content is relatable.
With 50 Cent’s proven ability to craft compelling television across multiple genres and an ensemble cast of talented actors, the boxing drama is positioned to draw serious viewership at launch.
The premiere party in New York featured surprise performances and became one of the hottest events of the summer.
