WASHINGTON, D.C. — JAMAICA Fest is turning up the volume on the Washington region’s Independence celebrations. Grammy-nominated reggae singer Etana and recording artiste Nesbeth are set to headline the fifth annual cultural showcase. It will be at Veterans Plaza in Silver Spring, Maryland, on Sunday, August 9.
The noon-to-evening festival will serve as the high-energy finale to the Embassy of Jamaica’s programme marking the country’s 64th anniversary of Independence. It will bring music, food, culture and community together. This is one of the D.C. area’s most visible Caribbean celebrations.
Celebration of Jamaican Life and Heritage
Presented as a full-scale celebration of Jamaican life and heritage, the event will spotlight the island’s music, cuisine, art, culture, tourism and entrepreneurship. It will transform downtown Silver Spring into a daylong hub of island flavour and diaspora pride.
Live Entertainment: Etana and Nesbeth
Hosted by the Embassy of Jamaica in partnership with Right Now for Jamaica Inc., JAMAICA Fest will feature a live entertainment line-up anchored by Etana and Nesbeth. There will also be performances by the Image Band and music by DJ Najair rounding out the bill.
Chargé d’Affaires, a.i., at the Embassy of Jamaica, Lishann Salmon, said the annual festival has become a key moment for Jamaicans abroad to reconnect with home. Additionally, it introduces the wider community to the depth and dynamism of Jamaican culture.
“JAMAICA Fest is a joyful reminder of the traditions that shaped us, the values we hold dear and the memories that continue to bring a smile to our faces,” Salmon said.
“Whether it is through the music, the food or simply the way we come together, these moments connect us to our roots and to one another.”
Salmon noted that the event also reflects the strength and vibrancy of the Jamaican diaspora across the Washington metropolitan area.
“The strength of the Jamaican diaspora and the wider Caribbean community has allowed our culture to flourish throughout this region,” she said. “Silver Spring, with its vibrant Jamaican and Caribbean presence, is a fitting home for this celebration.”
Embassy’s Flagship Cultural Event
Now firmly established as the Embassy’s flagship cultural event, JAMAICA Fest has grown into one of the major Jamaican festivals in the U.S. capital region, drawing thousands of patrons from Maryland, Virginia, the District of Columbia and beyond.
Beyond the main stage, visitors can expect an immersive Jamaican experience featuring island cuisine, an Artisan Village showcasing Jamaican creativity, Business and Tourism Zones highlighting investment and travel opportunities, Government Agency exhibits, family-friendly activities and the popular domino competition.
The festival also gives Jamaican-owned businesses, entrepreneurs and community organisations a prominent platform to showcase products and services. Moreover, it helps them build new connections and strengthen commercial and cultural ties between Jamaica and its diaspora.
Organisers say the gathering is designed not only as a celebration, but also as a showcase for Jamaica as a destination for tourism, trade, investment and education. It reinforces the Embassy’s focus on sustained diaspora engagement and regional partnerships.
As Independence celebrations in the nation’s capital end, JAMAICA Fest will bring a big day. It will feature music, food, culture, family activities, and Jamaican pride.
