Josh Kream says he’s completely innocent after getting arrested at Don Toliver’s sold-out Toyota Center show in Houston on Tuesday night.
The Houston rapper was taken into custody after authorities accused him of carrying an unholstered handgun inside the venue, but he’s adamant the allegations don’t hold up.
“That’s not true at all,” he told reporters during a Friday morning call, still processing the whole situation. “I’m still in shock, actually, a little bit.”
The concert came to an abrupt halt around 10:40 P.M. after Toliver performed “Kryptonite” and “Too Many Nights.”
Venue officials and Atlantic Records, Toliver’s label, cited safety concerns for fans, the artist, and staff as the reason for cutting the show short.
According to The Houston Chronicle, Josh Kream arrived with roughly 20 to 30 minutes remaining in the performance and entered through a loading tunnel typically reserved for artists, VIPs, and backstage personnel.
He maintains he cooperated fully with security upon entry and ran everything through the metal detector without issue.
Josh Kream made his way to the VIP section and watched for a few minutes before venue security and police approached him with allegations.
He was held in the Toyota Center security office for a couple of hours before being transferred to Harris County Jail.
Court documents show he was charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon in a public place, a misdemeanor. He was released on bond and is scheduled to appear in court on August 19.
He’s confident he’ll be cleared of any charges and isn’t letting the situation get him down.
“If something’s b#######, sometimes you just gotta play along with it. It’s unfortunate what happened, but I’ve overcome worse in my life, so this is not really that big of a deal,” Josh Kream said.
Before the shutdown, Don Toliver delivered an energetic performance and even joined fans on the floor for several songs.
Houston City Council Member Edward Pollard and rapper Bun B presented Toliver with a proclamation recognizing August 11 as Don Toliver Day.
