KINGSTON, Jamaica — The People’s National Party (PNP) has confirmed six regional chairpersons for the 2026 to 2027 term following a process in which three regions went to a vote and three were returned unopposed.
The newly confirmed regional chairpersons are Dr Kenneth Russell (region one), Omar Newell (region two), Dennis Gordon (region three), Denise Daley (region four), Donovan Mitchell (region five) and Allan Bernard (region six).
In the case of region six, the party on Tuesday said both candidates received 108 votes in the preliminary count of ballots in the chairman’s election. However, following a final count on Monday with legal guidance, both candidates gained additional valid votes.
Allan Bernard moved from 108 to 131 votes and Jerome Darnells from 108 to 120 votes. The final count resulted in Allan Bernard being declared the winner and new chairman of region six.
The PNP said the incoming chairs bring a wide range of experience across education, business, youth development and community service, strengthening the party’s capacity to organise and deliver at the grassroots level over the coming year.
General Secretary Dr Dayton Campbell said, “These six men and women were chosen by our delegates, and that mandate matters. Over the next year, our regional chairs will be the engine of our organisation on the ground, connecting party central to every constituency and every community. I congratulate each of them and I am confident in the team we now have in place.”
Meanwhile PNP Chairperson Dr Angela Brown Burke said, “I want to congratulate our new regional chairs on behalf of the entire party family. Whether they were elected by their peers or returned unopposed, each of them carries the confidence of our membership. Their leadership over the coming year will be vital as we build towards our 88th annual conference and prepare our organisation for the road ahead.”
