Megan Thee Stallion is ready to expand her empire beyond music and into acting, with Queen Latifah serving as her blueprint for success.
During an appearance on Michelle Obama’s podcast “IMO,” the Houston rapper opened up about her ambitions to pursue acting and how she’s modeling her career trajectory after the legendary entertainer.
“I’m really wanting to take my artistry bigger,” Megan Thee Stallion explained. “I don’t only want to do music, I do want to get into acting. That’s just something I really want to pursue right now. Queen Latifah is my girl, and I’m definitely like a student of hers. And luckily, I’m also a friend of hers now. And I always got to give her her flowers because she is just so inspirational. And I’m like, okay, Queen Latifah, this is my route. This is who I’m modeling this after.”
Queen Latifah’s career trajectory makes her the perfect mentor for Megan’s next chapter.
The New Jersey native has successfully balanced a Grammy-winning music career with a thriving acting and producing career spanning decades.
In 2026, Latifah was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and will debut as a coach on the thirtieth season of NBC’s “The Voice.”
Her acting credits include iconic roles in “Living Single,” “Set It Off,” and “Chicago,” the latter of which earned her an Academy Award nomination. She also won a Primetime Emmy Award for her portrayal of blues singer Bessie Smith in the HBO film “Bessie.”
Megan’s acting journey has already begun in earnest. She made her Broadway debut in “Moulin Rouge! The Musical” from March 24 to May 17, 2026, becoming the first female performer to play the role of Zidler.
The experience proved transformative for the rapper, who brought her own energy and interpretation to the iconic nightclub impresario character.
“Broadway was like so much fun. I am committing myself to at least going to two Broadway shows every year,” Megan said. “‘Moulin Rouge’ was just such an amazing experience. Meeting all of those people, like I feel like I made so many really, really good friends. Two shows a day, two times a week. And you get one day off, which is Monday. I’m like, y’all are superheroes. And I feel I’m, like, oh my gosh, I have to have this kind of work ethic.”
Her Broadway debut wasn’t without nerves. Megan admitted she was terrified of stepping into a completely different performance space than the one she’s accustomed to as a recording artist and touring performer.
“I was very nervous because I can be Megan Thee Stallion. I could be Megan Pete all day long. I was neither one of those people. And I was like, ‘who am I? What you want me to say?’ I don’t know if I’m gonna be able to do this. But I’ma do it, but I’m scared,” she recalled. “So my first night, I was just like, please just remember the lines.”
The production team and cast supported her throughout the run, with crew members helping her prepare backstage before each performance.
That collaborative environment reminded Megan of what she values in her music career, surrounding herself with people who believe in her vision and push her to be better.
Beyond Broadway, Megan has been expanding her acting portfolio.
She’s joined Netflix under an exclusive deal and has landed roles in upcoming projects, including the R-rated musical comedy “F*cking Identical Twins,” as well as appearances in other television productions.
As Megan continues to build her acting resume, she’s not abandoning music.
She’s working on Act III, a new project that reintroduces her alter ego Tina Snow with fresh collaborations and a more intentional creative process.
She’s learned to balance multiple creative pursuits without burning out, something Queen Latifah has mastered over her decades-long career.
“I feel like Act III is gonna be one of my favorite projects I ever put out because I definitely took my time with this one,” Megan said.
