The Caribbean Economic Outlook for 2026: Guyana Surges, the Dominican Republic Accelerates, and Jamaica Contracts

The Caribbean economy is heading into a sharply uneven period, with Guyana continuing to expand at extraordinary rates, the Dominican Republic returning to stronger growth and much of the tourism-dependent Caribbean settling into a considerably more moderate trajectory.

New forecasts from the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean show the Caribbean economy growing by 5.6 percent in 2026, followed by an acceleration to 7.9 percent in 2027. But those headline numbers obscure what may be the most important figure in the report for investors: excluding Guyana, Caribbean growth is projected at just 1.1 percent this year.
